Nearly 11 lakh candidates registered for the Class 12 exams, which were held between March 9 and April 29, this year against 10,67,900 students last year.
Board officials said students scoring in the 95-100% range increased to 10,091 from last year’s 9351.
Girls
performed better than boys by 9.5% as out of 4,60,026 girls 87.50%
passed and 78% of 6,38,865 boys cleared the exam. The pass percentage of
disabled students was 86.69 with 2123 out of 2449 passed.
A Noida girl became the topper in the Class 12 exam and students from Chandigarh were ranked second and third across India. Raksha Gopal, who pursued humanities at Amity International School, scored 99.6% marks to ace the exams.
Last year, Sukriti Gupta of New Delhi’s Montfort School in Ashok Vihar scored 99.4% to top the Class 12 exams. She was a science student.
Science student Bhumi Sawant of DAV School in Chandigarh’s Sector 8 emerged as the second topper with 99.4%. Commerce students Aditya Jain and Mannat Luthra of Bhawan Vidyalaya in Chandigarh both bagged 99.2% to become the third topper.
The results were delayed after a Delhi high court directive on the moderation policy, which the school board struck down for this year. CBSE was directed by the high court to continue with it for at least this year.
CBSE chairperson RK Chaturvedi said the board “will follow the moderation policy” in a statement announcing the declaration of Class 12 results.
